Children's Book Author Visits BRES

Wendy Ulmer, children’s book author, visited BRES library today and read 3 of her books to the Kindergarten thru 4 th grade.   With the kindergartners, she read the book A isn’t for Fox, which is a rhyming book about animals. They also played a rhyming game.

With the 1st and 2nd graders, she read the counting book Zero, Zilch, Nada - Counting to None, which is a book about a rabbit who needs to inflate 100 balloons for a party, but has a hard time counting them.  After reading the book, the 1st/2nd graders learned a counting dance.

The 3rd and 4th graders listened to the first book in her trilogy. She read the first two chapters of the book,  The Call, which is an adventure about a boy, magic and a dragon. The students didn’t want her to stop reading. She described how she created the characters’ names and places in her book. Ask your child about the magic page.

With all 3 books, she talked about the process of writing and how there were a lot of “do-overs.” She said it made her become a better writer.  Also, she showed the original artwork, from each book,  created by her illustrator and the process of how the book comes together.    She engaged all ages.
